Icebreaker "Shirase" came alongside the Showa Base!!!
We received such a delightful new as soon as the new year started.
On January 4, the Japanese Icebreaker "Shirase" successfully docked near the Showa Base in Antarctica for the first time in three years. "Shirase" had to plow through Antarctic thick ice by breaking ice 2,227 times since December 14, 2013 to land at the point 600 meters off the coast of the Showa Base. Now they can transport fuels directly to the base and the more goods were also carried on the ice.
You can also see how the 55th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition entered the Showa Base in the official website of "SHOWA BASE NOW". Please visit the site to see the Pisten bully working on the Antarctic ice.
